Quick Start Guide

Get started with Tamsaek in just a few minutes. This guide covers the essentials you need to find files instantly.

Use the global hotkey to open Tamsaek from anywhere:

You can customize this in Settings → General → Global Hotkey.

Just start typing to search:

quarterly report

Tamsaek searches:

  • File names
  • File contents (PDFs, documents, spreadsheets)
  • Metadata (dates, authors, tags)

Use operators for more precise searches:

Toggle AI mode with Tab or click the AI icon. Then search naturally:

find the presentation I made for the client meeting last month

AI mode understands:

  • Time references (“last week”, “in March”)
  • Context (“the contract”, “that spreadsheet”)
  • Intent (“find”, “show me”, “where is”)

  1. Open Settings (gear icon or Cmd+,)
  2. Go to Sources tab
  3. Click Add Folder
  4. Select the folder to index
  5. Wait for indexing to complete
  • ~/Documents
  • ~/Desktop
  • ~/Downloads
  • Project folders
  • Cloud storage sync folders

Tamsaek can search your cloud files locally:

  1. Go to Settings → Cloud
  2. Click Connect next to your provider
  3. Authorize access
  4. Cloud files will be indexed locally

Supported providers:

  • Google Drive
  • Microsoft OneDrive
  • SharePoint

For natural language search:

  1. Go to Settings → AI
  2. Enable AI Search Mode
  3. Wait for model download (~3GB, one-time)

All AI processing happens locally on your device.

  1. Be specific: “Q4 2024 sales report” works better than “report”
  2. Use file types: “type:pdf contract” narrows results
  3. Search content: Tamsaek finds text inside files, not just names
  4. Try AI mode: For complex queries like “emails from John about the project”
